Friday, November 8, 2019 was a very busy day for members of the Rivers Edge Veterans Association as they celebrated Veterans Day with our fellow veterans at two local facilities. At noon REVA members hosted a Veterans Day luncheon for veterans residing at Arbor Landing in Ocean Isle. REVA members and spouses prepared a special lunch for the veterans, which included pulled pork, spiral ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, broccoli casserole, beer and wine. For dessert there were plenty of cookies and peach cobbler. Thirteen Arbor Landing veterans attended the luncheon and were presented military “Challenge Coins” and American flags by REVA members as they were thanked for their military service. Three new veteran residents of Arbor Landing were also honored by representatives of Lower Cape Fear Hospice and presented with Veterans Service Flag Pins.
At 2:00 pm REVA members hosted an ice cream social for residents residing at Brunswick Health and Rehab Center in Ash. Seven REVA members served ice cream with all the fix-ins to seven veterans and nine widows of veterans residing at the facility. The veterans were also honored by Lower Cape Fear Hospice and presented with Veterans Service Flag Pins.
At both facilities; veterans from World War II to Vietnam were honored and thanked for their military service. Each event ended with the singing of God Bless America by all.
