During the COVID-19 pandemic the normal way of enjoying our activities has been altered. Here at Rivers Edge Golf Club and at many other golf courses in the area the use of golf carts has been limited to one person per cart creating a shortage of carts on most golf courses. At Rivers Edge, management has allowed members to walk the course, if they choose to. One member took on the challenge. He has been walking the hilly and long course since COVID-19 restrictions were put in place. He has been walking the course three to four times a week since North Carolina Phase 1 went into effect on March 25, 2020. Compiling eight to ten miles per round depending on how well or poorly he was playing. For his dedication and taking on the challenge, Larry Shapiro was awarded the REGC Ironman Award.
